What To Say In Postscripts
All your sales letters, web site letters, and memos should have a post script at the end. There is almost universal agreement about that. Marketers do it. Copywriters do it. Even the birds and bees do it (oops, that sounds like a line from a song).
Why? Because 60% of people read a P.S. BEFORE they read the rest of your letter. It only makes sense that your P.S. should contain important information that makes the sale.
Certainly the internet is a medium that encourages skim reading. So you as an online marketer need to cater for skim reading. Avoid screen after screen of unbroken text blocks. They are a big turn off. Insert images, testimonial boxes, other tables, changes of font, font size and font color. All of these help to arrest the eye as skimmers scroll rapidly down the page.
But when they get to the end of the page, they find your P.S. There's nowhere to go so you have a captive audience. At least for a moment.
So what is the best use of the P.S. space?
Here are some ideas on what to say in your P.S.:
1. Repeat your main offer. "Remember, you get the ENTIRE package for just $19.97."
2. Your P.S. should urge the reader to take action, to buy NOW. Most marketing fails because it never asks for the sale. If you truly believe in the value of your product, you need to have no hesitation in encouraging people to buy it because it will solve their particular problem.
3. Use your P.S. to add a bonus to the deal. "PLUS, if you buy today, I'll add at no extra cost my popular report called…"
4. The P.S. can state your guarantee. "Remember if you aren't completely satisfied, we'll buy the product back and you can keep the bonuses as our way of saying thank you for giving us an honest try."
5. Your P.S. can talk about the many satisfied customers you've had. Wow your readers quotes from your customers and with concrete numbers if you have them.
6. If there is a time limit or a volume limit, stress that here. Offer a savings incentive for them to buy now.
